Delight in the sand, sea and sunshine at Barnett Marine
Park.
Daytime or evening, enjoy a shoreline stroll amid the
lazy trails of Barnet Marine Park, where the view of
Burrard Inlet and the towering Coast Mountains beyond
are simply spectacular. There's also swimming, boating
and picnicking.
Playground of the Gods
Enjoy the mountain, water and city view from this green
jewel. Featuring the resplendent Rose Gardens, hiking
and walking trails, picnic areas, children's playground
and fine dining at Horizons restaurant, this park is a
must see. You can also experience the Burnaby Mountain
Conservation Area, a large natural mountain forest where
many significant ecological assets have been preserved
for outdoor recreation, nature interpretation and
education. A must see is the fascinating "Playground of
the Gods" sculpture. This amazing work of art was
created by Ainu sculptors, members of Japan's aboriginal
people, and symbolizes a story of people, gods and
creatures sharing the Earth in harmony.
Burnaby's many waterways invite you to paddle a canoe,
windsurf, sail, or watch the tug boats pass by.
Located on Burnaby's south shore, overlooking the
bustling Fraser River, this park offers 4.1 kilometers
of shoreline trails among trees and grassy meadows, plus
plenty BBQ picnic sites. Watch for tug boats and fishing
boats, view local farm activity and enjoy the kid's
playground. Nearby is Riverway Public Golf Course and
Riverway Sports Complex.
This 300-hectare nature park offers a variety of trails
through open marshland and an enchanting forest. An
interpretive Nature House features educational displays,
plus a viewing tower for observing birds, wildlife and a
panoramic vista, Nearby, you'll find the Burnaby Lake
Equestrian Centre.
Wide, tree lined pathways or rugged nature trails - the
choice is yours in Central Park.
Walk, jog or cycle through Central Park's 8.5 kilometres
of wide, comfortable pathways. Along the way, discover
an 18-hole Pitch and Putt golf course, outdoor pool,
horseshoe pitch and fitness circuit. Enjoy the forest of
towering Douglas Fir trees, or treat yourself to one of
the numerous sports events at Swangard Stadium.
2.5 km of well laid out trails among tall forests and
wooded ravines offer the perfect setting for a family
outing. The sloped landscape provides views of Burnaby
Lake and Burnaby Mountain. Visitors can also enjoy an
outdoor pool, wading pool, picnic areas, tennis courts
and off leash areas for dogs.
BC Parkway
The BC Parkway trail travels beside the SkyTrain and is
part of a 19 kilometre cycling and pedestrian strip that
connects all the way to Vancouver's False Creek
waterfront and Westminster Quay in New Westminster. Set
within a beautifully landscaped park corridor, the trail
is highlighted with enchanting discoveries along the
way.
Visitors can enjoy a fascinating ride aboard the
miniature railway or discover trails, tennis courts,
skateboard park, spray pool and off leash areas for
dogs. From Confederation Park, a 5.5 km network of
trails wind along the picturesque Burrard Inlet. You can
also catch the Trans Canada Trail that runs through the
Park. For family fun, dive into Eileen Dailly Leisure
Pool & Fitness Centre which features a 70 metre water
slide.
Deer Lake Concert Bowl
Intimate and peaceful, the trails in Deer Lake Park take
visitors through cool woods, grassy meadows and lakeside
vistas. Watch for a variety of bird life, or enjoy the
floral gardens. Deer Lake Park is also home to a variety
of scenic and cultural facilities including the Shadbolt
Centre For the Arts and the Visual Arts Burnaby and
Century Gardens. For heritage buffs and those who would
like to walk along Deer Lake, a 45 minute self guided
heritage walking tour is a must. This 2 kilometer walk
takes you to seven stately homes set in the country
landscape along the north shore of the lake in beautiful
Deer Lake Park. A free tour brochure is available at
Burnaby Village Museum, the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
or at Ceperley House (Art Gallery), your starting point
for the tour at 6344 Deer Lake Avenue.
