Accommodation
Waiariki Institute of Technology offers the international
student the choice of two quality accommodation options;
Waiariki House - Hall of Residence
Opened in April 2002, a custom built student residential
facility offering the choice of single or share-twin rooms.
Waiariki House is situated in the city centre just a few
minutes walk from many fast food outlets, restaurants, retail
shops, supermarkets, banks and travel agents. A regular bus
service operates from just outside the Halls to the centre of
Waiariki's main Mokoia Road campus. |
Features of
Halls of Residence
With a full-time resident manager to assist the student and
maintain security, the resident can enjoy his or her
independence and yet still develop the friendships and
relationships that a student community provides. The halls offer
self catering facilities with each resident having their own dry
goods and refrigerated lockers and a large communal dining
area.A computer suite is available for students who do not
possess their own computer
In each room, the student has a single bed, ample wardrobe
clothes storage area and a student desk that is large enough to
hold their own computer work station and printer. Each room is
reticulated for direct line telephone with a separate jack point
for personal computer connection to state of the art ADSL
internet access.
Costs of Waiariki House Hall of Residence
Single Room - $160 per week
Share Twin Room - $120 per week for 20 weeks (rates vary for
shorter periods of stay)
Students are also required to pay a bond of $200 on initial
arrival at the Waiariki House. The bond is refundable on
departure less any liabilities incurred for damage during stay.
There is also a once off activities fee of $100 payable.
Management of the Halls utilises this activities fee to provide
additional social activities for the students during their stay
in the halls.

Costs of Homestay
Cost per week NZ$160
In addition there is a once only Homestay administration fee of
$NZ150.
The International Centre will make arrangements for your first
twelveweeks accommodation on your behalf prior to your arrival.
You should be prepared to pay the first twelve weeks
accommodation in advance , and either the homestay
administration fee ($150) or the Halls bond and activities fee
($300) as soon as you arrive in Rotorua. This may be paid from
the additional funds that you transmitted to the institute when
you sent your fees.
Whereas Waiariki will make its best efforts to meet your
preference for accommodation (Halls of Residence or homestay),
there may be times when through availability, your preference is
unavailable. Waiariki therefore, reserves the right to place you
in the style of accommodation available.
STUDENT ACCOMMODATION POLICY
Waiariki will only place an arriving student in to Waiariki
Accredited Accommodation.
Waiariki offers the following pre-arranged options for student
accommodation:
1. First four weeks in Waiariki Accredited homestay
2. First 20 weeks in Waiariki Accredited Halls of Residence
3. First 20 weeks in Waiariki Accredited Homestay
The student (or the student's agent) must advise Waiariki before
the student leaves for New Zealand which accommodation option
the student has chosen.
At the end of the pre-arranged accommodation period, the student
may choose to either extend the existing arrangement or make
their own accommodation arrangements. Waiariki's International
Centre will assist if the student wishes to extend their stay in
one of the Waiariki Accredited Accommodation options.
In the case of Halls of Residence Waiariki will make payment for
the 20 weeks prior to the student arriving. The student will be
required to complete the necessary contract with the Halls of
Residence operators prior to arrival at Waiariki.
In the case of either the 4 week or 20 week option, Waiariki
will make direct payment to the homestay provider for the first
four weeks from the funds transmitted by the student. The
student will be responsible for making further payments to the
homestay provider.
The student, the student's agent or the student's parent has the
option to arrange the student's accommodation in Rotorua instead
of taking any of the three Waiariki Accredited Options
In the situation where the student has transmitted living
expenses with their tuition fee as part of the requirement for
the visa, the following will apply:
Waiariki will make payment to the homestay provider for the
first four weeks or to the Halls of Residence operator for the
contracted period from the living expenses funds.
The balance of the living expenses will be paid directly to the
student's bank account each four weeks at an amount equal to the
cost of four weeks homestay accommodation.
