Most post-secondary
programs require high school level English and many students
choose to do a year of foundation courses to complete the
English requirement before selecting a post-secondary program.
The
unique aspect of a community college is the university transfer
programming. Students who are sure of their area of interest can
complete a two-year Associate Degree in a range of disciplines
of arts and science. An Associate Degree is a valuable
credential by itself, but if the students do decide to continue
their education the courses are all accepted by the universities
as equivalent to their own. Students not sure of where their
interests lie find it helpful to take a selection of courses for
which transfer credit is awarded by the universities.
Other students are looking for practical training to get jobs,
and the colleges offer a range of one and two-year programs
providing the skills needed for employment. |
