The study tour of Mexico, organized by the Department of Geography and Latin American Studies, is a three week tour surveying the wide variety of landscapes, economies and cultures of Mexico. Students are introduced to urban geography, rural landscapes, the natural setting and the historical / archaeological context of Mexico The tour is demanding in that each day is structured and travel is frequent. Immersion in the culture and landscape, as well as the ongoing interdisciplinary dialogue are the rewards of an intensive introduction to Mexcio and the Mesoamerican world. Interest in Latin America is assumed but no background in Spanish is required


Requirements: Students admitted to the study tour are required to enroll in at least two courses ( a minimum of six credits, a maximum of twelve). Courses will require varying amounts of work before departure, an interdiscplinary seminar and journal while in Mexico as well as a presentation based on research done before the study tour. Coursework must be completed within a thirteen week period ( May 1 - July 31, 1998). a maximum of 18 students may enroll in the study tour.

Mexico City - The first six days will be spent in the dynamic, and by turns exciting and daunting, capital of Mexico.

It will fly non-stop to Mexico on Japan Airlines on May 4th, staying at the Hotel Catedral, in the historic centre of Mexico City
