Campuses & Facilities
Chilliwack:
A "temporary" campus, designed to last five years, was
constructed in Chilliwack in 1975. The main building is
still in use today, after a series of "temporary"
renovations. A temporary campus was opened on Marshall
Road in Abbotsford in 1975. An Agriculture Technology
centre was constructed at the Chilliwack campus in 1986,
and a Health Sciences centre opened in 1992. A new
multipurpose complex and drama theatre were opened in
the fall of 1996. Plans are ready and funds have been
approved for the construction of another major complex
on the Chilliwack campus to replace the library, science
labs, classrooms, and faculty offices. However, those
plans are on hold because UCFV is working on relocating
its Chilliwack campus to the former Canadian Forces Base
Chilliwack.
Abbotsford:
The college's first permanent campus opened on
King Road in Abbotsford in 1983. A new Learning Centre
containing the main library, the First Heritage Computer
Access Centre, and other instructional and support areas
opened in the fall of 1996. Another classroom,
laboratory, and office building was opened in September
1997. In 2002, the Student Activity
Centre and gymnasium opened its doors.
Trades
programming started with a Carpentry program on Portage
Avenue in Chilliwack in 1978. The land belonged to the
Chilliwack School District and the Ministry of Advanced
Education funded the building of the shop. The plan was
to hand the building over to the School District after
five years but it took 12 years to acquire funding to
build the new shop in Abbotsford. In 1991, UCFV
consolidated all Trades programming at its present
location in Abbotsford.
