Friendly, Affordable City
Cardiff is a compact city with
everything, including the university, within walking distance.
It is big enough to have everything you could want: shops,
cinemas, parks, concert arenas etc., but small enough to be
easy to get round, safe, and friendly. In a recent independent
survey, taking into account cost of living, crime rate, living
conditions and 38 other factors, Cardiff was found to offer a
higher quality of life than any other established University
city. In a National Union of Students' survey carried out in
May 2000 it was found that, out of all UK universities,
Cardiff University's accommodation was the cheapest.
Excellent Travel Services
Cardiff
has excellent rail links to all of the UK; only two hours away
from London and minutes away from some of the most stunning
countryside in the world. Many students return for visits
after their graduation and are proud to bring family and
friends for holidays.
Cardiff has excellent road and rail links with Britain's other
major cities. London is only 100 minutes away by train, and
the M4 links both the west and south of England, as well as
west Wales. Travel to the Midlands and the North is equally
convenient. The main coach and railway stations are in the
city's centre, with an international airport just outside the
city.
Wide range of sports and social facilities
Cardiff University has some of the best sporting centers and
clubs of any university in Britain, with a wide range of
facilities for indoor and outdoor sports.
When it comes to entertainment, there are many pubs, wine
bars, lounge bars and night-clubs. Concerts are held at St
David's Hall, the International Arena and the University
Concert Hall. The Welsh National Opera has its home here, and
there are two thriving theatres, an arts centre and
multi-screen cinemas. Also
there are classes in Aerobics, Circuit Training, Self-defence,
Yoga and more.
