INTERNATIONAL
STUDENT :
Teaching
Teaching at Holborn College may differ from the teaching in your home country,
with lectures, seminars and workshops. This variety of teaching approaches
encourages students to actively participate through supervised discussion,
debates and presentations. All classes are led by a professional academic.
Academic Support
At Holborn College they care about each of their students and work to build
strong student-staff relationships, as they believe this enhances student
performance. Students are assigned a personal tutor who provides individual
assistance and monitors academic progress on a regular basis and their lecturers
operate an easy access policy, to provide additional help and support.
Study Skills
Holborn College facilitates international students' adjustment to the UK
education system, through extra study skills, revision and examiniation
preparation classes, as well as optional English academic writing classes.
Private Study
British education places a high emphasis on self-teaching, and students are
required to supplement formal teaching with independent study. This can involve
researching a topic, usually based around a lecture or seminar; making a
presentation; or producing written work or coursework.
Assessment
A variety of assessment methods are used, including examinations, coursework,
presentations or dissertations. Group work may also be assessed.
Plagiarism
This is where a student copies work from another student, or from a book without
referencing the source properly. This is a serious offence, with severe
penalties. You will be given information on plagiarism when you begin your
studies, and can speak to your personal tutor at any time.
