Bangor University was founded in 1884, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious degree awarding institutions in the UK. For 125 years students from all over the world have graduated from Bangor and as a result gone on to achieve great success in their chosen careers.

Located in North Wales, one of the safest areas in the UK, Bangor is located between the sea and the Snowdonia Mountains, making it one of the most attractive and beatiful study destinations in the UK. The student population is diverse, coming from Wales, the rest of the UK, and from all over the world. The University has close to 10,000 students, of which 1000 are international students, 26 academic schools and over 600 teaching staff.

In addition to being a great place to study, the quality of education that students receive at the University is of the highest order The University is constantly ranked in the top 50% of state recognised UK Universities, and many departments are ranked in the top ten of their kind in the UK.

To meet the high demand of contemporary living accommodation, the University opened 6 brand new halls of residence in September 2008 with more halls opening their doors in September 209.

First year accommodation is guaranteed to our international students, and our living costs is rated as the most cost effective throughout the whole of the UK according to the recent survey, the International Student Barometer 2008. The University has a variety of accommodaiton, raning from single rooms, to family accommodation, the majority of which are en-suite. The University can also provide assistance to students wishing to live in private accommodaiton.

The University prides itself on the close links it has established with business and industry, recently opening a world class Management Centre, as well as embarking on a relationship with Technium CAST (Centre for Advanced Software Technology), Technium OpTIC (Opto-electronics Technology and Incubation Centre) as well as being closely linked with local hospitals, schools and Intenational Banks, where internships ara available.

Every five to six years the UK Government organises a detailed analysis of all research conducted in British universities. This study is called the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The RAE is important because it is used to determine how much funding an institution receives from the Government and also helps universities to attract world class academic staff. During the most recent RAE, Bangor proved itself to be among the very top universities in the UK. Each academic School which is assessed is awarded a final rating from 1-4; with 1* being the lowest and 4* the highest. Any research given a rating of 2* is recognised internationally. The RAE identified world leading research in all of Bangor’s 19 assessed subject areas with nearly 50% given the top grading of 3* and 4*. In the most recent National Student Satisfaction survey (NSS) Bangor was ranked 11th in the UK and in the top 20% for overall teaching and learning experience. Bangor is consistently ranked amongst the top 50% out of more than 140 state-recognised universities in surveys conducted by leading UK newspapers such as The Guardian and The Times.
