Anniesland College was
opened in April 1964 to provide general and vocational education for the
community in the west of Glasgow.
The college main building is located
at Hatfield Drive, where a four-storey classroom block and an extensive
workshop area, together with a gymnasium, multimedia resource facility
(METRO) and a nursery provide good facilities for its wide range of
activities. During the 80's expansion in student numbers necessitated
the acquisition of additional premises, and a former primary school at
Balshagray became an annexe of the college in 1983.
There has always been strong emphasis on the role of Anniesland
College as a community college, meeting the needs of individuals and
community groups. In recent years many of the college courses have been
delivered by staff on an outreach basis in community centres and schools
throughout the area, and it remains a priority to establish and maintain
proactive working relationships with community organisations. The
college also manages two resource centres in Milton and Ruchill.
At the same time the college has developed and maintained strong
links with local industry and provides specialised craft training for
the shipbuilding industry.
Anniesland College is proud of there reputation for being a small, friendly, local
college. However, to help provide top quality education to their
students, Anniesland work closely with many other bodies. College offer
many part-time opportunities for students to sample courses before
choosing a full-time course.
