According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC),
full-time registered International students can work on campus.
International students who are granted a job on campus, must be given a
contract of employment from the department hiring in order for the
student to apply for a Social Insurance Number (S.I.N.) at a local HRDC
(Human Resource Development Canada) office. HRDC will not issue a

Algonquin
College offers accommodation through the Homestay program to International
students who wish to experience living with a Canadian family during their study
abroad experience. Living with a Canadian family can help improve English
language skills while providing a warm and supportive learning environment.
Students have
an opportunity to learn about Canadian culture and lifestyles and to share their
cultural background with their host family.
The
Homestay Coordinator will try to match the student application to that of a
suitable host family. Students are provided their own furnished room
and three meals a day.
International
students considering the Homestay program should realize that Canadian families
come from a diverse multi-cultural background. Students are expected to
integrate into the family and participate in the family's daily routines.
Students should realize that both adults may work outside the home and maintain
a busy schedule of activities both work-related and social. Students should
understand that although many families enjoy participating in
the Homestay
program, each family enjoys a different lifestyle.
The Homestay
monthly fee is $650 CAD. There is a $100 CAD placement fee and a $600 CAD
security deposit must accompany your application for the Homestay Program. The
security deposit will be returned to the student one month after leaving the homestay provided that there are no outstanding expenses and sufficient notice
has been given.
