HISTORY
The university was established in 1850 as the University of Deseret by the General Assembly of the provisional State of Deseret, making it Utah's oldest institution of higher education. It received its current name in 1892, four years before Utah attained statehood, and moved to its current location in 1900.It is one of ten institutions that make up the Utah System of Higher Education.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the University of Utah is to serve the people of Utah and the world through the discovery, creation and application of knowledge; through the dissemination of knowledge by teaching, publication, artistic presentation and technology transfer; and through community engagement. Location & Facilities
The University of Utah is located in the Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.
Salt Lake City is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S. state of Utah.
Campus takes up 1,534 acres (6.21km2), including the Health Sciences complex, Research Park, and Fort Douglas. It is located on the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley, close to the Wasatch Range and approximately 2 miles east of downtown Salt Lake City.
Also Courses are also held at off-campus centers located in Bountiful, Murray, Park City, downtown Salt Lake City, and Sandy.
TRANSPORTATION
A number of campus shuttles, running on biodiesel and used vegetable oil, circle the campus on six different routes. The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) runs several buses through the university area as well as the TRAX University Line (light rail), which travels through downtown Salt Lake City, where riders can transfer to the Sandy / Salt Lake Line, and terminates at the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub, where riders can transfer to FrontRunner (heavy rail). UTA runs limited trains directly from the university to Sandy on the Sandy / University Line. Students and staff are given free passes to ride UTA buses, TRAX, and FrontRunner.
Other services include library and computing services,veteran services, tutoring services, women resourse centre, university counselling centre, career services, heath centre.
Accomodation: 1)University Student Apartments is committed to making the residential experience an important part of the total university experience.
The University of Utah family housing program is one of the largest of its kind in the country and accommodates students from all over the world. Our apartment community fosters individual lifestyles and educational opportunities within a framework of responsible freedom. Residents enjoy children's programs, cultural activities and individual participation in community affairs.
The University of Utah owns and operates 1094 apartment units that are primarily intended for students and their families. Utilities, cable television, basic telephone service and high speed Internet are included.
2)Single students with or without roommates of the same gender can live in the one and two bedroom apartments located in Medical Plaza Towers.
