Overview

The University of New Haven is a private, comprehensive, coeducational university located in West Haven, Connecticut, which borders the larger city of New Haven and Long Island Sound.
The University was founded in 1920 and is situated on an 84-acre (339,936 m²) campus, with an enrollment of about 3,600 undergraduate students and 1,600 graduate students. It offers associate's and bachelor's degrees in more than 95 programs and master's degrees in 25 areas. The University is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and its mascot is the Charger, a medieval war horse.

The University has an enrollment of more than 5,200; approximately 1,700 graduate students and more than 3,500 undergraduates, 70 percent of whom reside in University housing.  The University offers more than 80 undergraduate degrees and more than 25 graduate degrees through its five colleges, in fields such as sports management, nutrition, forensic science, music and sound recording, engineering, computer science and criminal justice.

    Location & Facilities

    Located in West Haven, Connecticut, about ten minutes from downtown New Haven, the main campus includes administration, library, laboratory, computer, and classroom facilities as well as the admissions building, bookstore, student center, and residence halls. Recent additions to the main campus include a new residence hall and an outdoor plaza. South Campus includes Harugari Hall and South Campus Hall, the student records building. North Campus is the site of the university's athletic fields and gymnasium.

    Scholarships

    The University of New Haven offers generous scholarships for academically qualified international undergraduates ONLY who wish to pursue their Bachelor degrees. The university does NOT offer scholarships for international graduate students seeking master level degrees. Instead, Graduate students are encouraged to apply for Research or Graduate Assistantships.

    1)Presidential Scholarship ($14,000):
    A student who has achieved academic success in high school and on the SAT or ACT is considered for this scholarship. The minimum criteria for this scholarship is a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and a combined minimum critical reading and math SAT score of 1200 or a composite score of 26 on the ACT.
    The Presidential Scholarship is renewable for 4 years, provided a student completes a minimum of 24 credit hours each year, and maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA at UNH.

    2)Distinguished Scholar Awards ($9,000 - $12,000):
    Students who have achieved academic success in high school but have not achieved the SAT or ACT requirements for the Freshman Presidential Scholarship are eligible for this award. The minimum criteria for this scholarship is a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and a combined minimum critical reading and math SAT score of 1050 or a composite score of 23 on the ACT. The Distinguished Scholar Award varies depending on the student's SAT or ACT score and GPA. The award ranges from $9,000 - $12,000.
    The Distinguished Scholar Award is renewable for 4 years, provided a student completes a minimum of 24 credit hours each year, and maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA at UNH.

    3)International Student Awards ($9000-$12000):
    Minimum Requirements: An overall "B" or better average (3.0 GPA) at the time of application and a minimum IBT TOEFL score of 80 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
    Recipients of this scholarship may be awarded up to $12,000 annually, provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA and complete a minimum of 24 credit hours each year at UNH.
    To be considered for one of our academic scholarships, all you need to do is apply for full-time undergraduate admission. If accepted, you will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship.

    • Award decisions will be based upon your academic credentials at the time of your application.
    • Students must have a completed application for admission on file by May 1 for the fall semester or January 1 for the spring semester in order to be considered for an academic scholarship.

    Awards are available for both international Freshman and Transfer undergraduate students.

    • Awards are based upon the availability of funds.

    Graduate Assistantship Program
    There are two basic types of assistantships: research/teaching assistants and administrative assistants. In addition, the resident director live-in positions have special requirements (see those positions for details).

    Eligibility for assistantship positions is limited to graduate students who will be officially accepted in a degree program and who will be registered as full-time students in the Fall 2010 term.A student may hold only one assistantship during any award period. During the period that an assistantship is in effect, the student holding the position must be registered as a full-time student and must maintain a 3.0 cumulative quality point ratio. Students who fail to comply with these requirements will be subject to dismissal from the position.

    Graduate assistantship appointments are made for the academic year 2010-2011. Acceptance of these appointments is considered to be a commitment until June 30, 2011, unless a student completes the coursework for her or his degree in a prior term. For applying to graduate assistantship program,
