Overview
Founded in 1829, Rochester Institute of Technology is a privately endowed, coeducational university with nine colleges and institutes emphasizing career education and experiential learning.RIT is a nationally respected leader in professional and career-oriented education. Talented, ambitious, and creative students of all cultures and backgrounds—and from 50 states and more than 95 countries—have chosen to attend RIT.
Few universities provide RIT’s depth and breadth of career-oriented studies. Our eight colleges offer more than 90 different bachelor’s degree programs in art and design, business, engineering, science and mathematics, criminal justice, photography, environmental studies, hospitality and service management, computer science, information technology, bioinformatics, and many other areas.
As a major technical university, RIT offers academic opportunities that extend far beyond science and technology, including more liberal arts courses and faculty than you will find at most liberal arts colleges. With a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences, you’ll gain an understanding of both technological developments and the philosophy and ethical issues that go with them.
RIT is chartered by the legislature of the state of New York, accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, individual colleges have professional accreditation for specific programs.

Scholarships
Scholarships for undergraduate international students are determined by the Undergraduate Admissions Office and are based on academic merit. In order to renew your scholarship, you need to enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
In addition to merit scholarships, international students are also eligible to earn additional funds by participating in RIT's student employment program. International students can earn an average of $1,500 per year by working part-time on campus. Students work an average of 8 to 10 hours per week, and positions can be applied for through the Student Employment Office.
RIT Graduate Scholarships are awarded by academic departments in recognition of students’ academic excellence. The amount of the award varies by student and department. Scholarships do not include a stipend. Scholarships may be awarded for some or all of a student’s tuition in a given year and are credited directly to the student’s account at Student Financial Services. These awards carry with them the expectation that students will maintain a minimum academic standard (3.0 grade point average per term) and make satisfactory progress toward their degrees. Students seeking more information about these awards should contact their graduate department coordinator.
RIT Graduate Assistantships are offered to full-time matriculated graduate students to serve as teaching, research, or administrative assistants. Graduate Assistants receive wages (determined by the department making the appointment) in exchange for work performed. Many graduate assistants also receive tuition remission (i.e. tuition support) in addition to receiving wages for assistantship duties. Students seeking more information about a possible appointment should contact their department graduate department coordinator.
