Overview

The University of Hartford was chartered on Feb. 21, 1957, as a University for the Hartford community. It merged three existing schools, the Hartford Art School, the Hartt School of Music, and Hillyer College. In the ensuing decades, the University has grown to seven schools and colleges and has moved from being a commuter school to a large residential campus that offers 84 undergraduate majors and more than 30 graduate degree programs.

It is fitting that an institution forged by the community should be an integral part of that community. The University has two public magnet schools on its campus—an elementary school and a high school concentrating in science and engineering. The Center for Community Service gives students, faculty, staff, and alumni access to volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Hartford.

The Center for Integrated Design, the Engineering Applications Center, the Center for Professional Development and the Upper Albany Micro Business Incubator program are just a few of the resources available to area businesses and industry. The University of Hartford has more than 7,000 full-time and part-time graduate and undergraduate students.

The University offers 82 bachelor's degree programs, 10 associate's degrees, 28 graduate degrees, and 7 certificates or diplomas. The student-faculty ratio is nearly 14:1.

Location & Facilities

 The university is located in west Hartford,Connecticut. The University of Hartford's scenic and suburban 350-acre campus on Bloomfield Avenue is at the juncture of three municipalities, the City of Hartford and the towns of Bloomfield and West Hartford.
Accommodation:
Off Campus Graduate Housing: newest residence halls for Graduate students are located in a quite residential area in the west end of Hartfod on the Asylum Avenue Campus (AAC) of the University of Hartford. Modernized, furnished 4-bedroom townhouses to be shared by two grad students. The fee and rental agreement is on a semester-by-semester basis, with a monthly payment plan available if requested.

Housing Fee includes:

• A private bedroom and a private office/study
• A shared living room, kitchen and bathroom(s)
• Heat, hot water, electricity, cable, internet, and parking is included.

Off Campus Housing: The University of Hartford and Student Centers Administration post rooms and properties for rent off-campus as a service to the community.

Courses Offered

Scholarships

International Grant: Undergraduate and Transfer students will be considered for partial tuition grants that range in value from $2,000.00 to $6,000.00. Grants are offered to the most qualified students making application for the Fall Academic Term. These awards will be renewed yearly providing that you maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Academic talent/Continuing student scholarship : If you demonstrate above average performance while enrolled at the University you will be considered for a partial tuition scholarship. You must complete 30 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 out of 4.0. The value of these awards ranges from $1500 to $3000. This Scholarship award can not be combined with an Artistic, Music or Athletic Scholarship or the Family Grant.

Art Scholarship: Students making application for the Bachelor of Fine Arts must forward their Art Portfolio prior to January 1 to be considered for an Artistic Talent Scholarship. These scholarships range in value from $2,000.00 to Full Tuition
