Overview
Sacred Heart University is a Catholic university located in suburban Fairfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1963, Sacred Heart University is a coeducational,
independent, comprehensive institution of higher learning
Over 6,000 students attend the University, and the University offers 45 degree programs on the ssociate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels.
SHU is the second-largest Catholic university in New England. It was established to provide an affordable, quality education at a Catholic university.

Accreditation
Sacred Heart University has been granted institutional accreditation by the New
England Association of Schools and Colleges, one of six regional associations in the United States that accredit schools and colleges.
In addition, several University programs either have received specialized accreditation or approval by the State of Connecticut, or have been granted specialized accreditation by national professional organizations.
- John F. Welch College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International)
- Education program for Teacher Certification at the elementary and secondary levels is approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education;
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE);
- Doctor of Physical Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)
- Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education
- Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education
- Bachelor of Arts or Science in Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Facilities
Located on 56 suburban acres and adjacent properties in Fairfield, Connecticut, the
main campus is just minutes from Exit 47 off the Merritt Parkway (Route 15),about one hour north of New York and less than three hours south of Boston.

Scholarships
All new students are considered for academic scholarships as part of the admission application review process (a separate scholarship application is not required). Merit scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Review Committee and are based on the review of each student’s high school transcript and class rank. Course selection and overall grade point average are weighed heavily in the review process.
