Overview
Oxford Tutorial College is an independent sixth-form college specialising in 'A' level and GCSE tuition for those intending to go on to higher education. Over the years it has established an excellent reputation for providing effective preparation for public examinations. This is achieved by thorough exam-specific teaching and close attention to the needs of the individual student, enabling reinforcement of understanding and attention to areas of weakness. Small seminar groups are combined with individual tuition, allowing for effective syllabus coverage and careful guidance with each student's understanding of material and production of written work.
Full-time A level courses are offered over either one or two years. Those taking A levels for the first time are able to choose without restriction from a wider range of subjects than is available in most sixth forms. Intensive A level re-take courses are also offered, lasting from one term to one year; the courses are individually tailored so that students only need re-take those units in which they had previously under-performed. GCSE courses are also available, either for the first time, or as re-takes.
The college also organises short intensive revision courses at Easter, both at A level and GCSE, as well as supplementary teaching at other times throughout the year to support the work being done at school.
Teaching an all courses comprises a combination of small group seminars and individual tuition. The college aims to provide a supportive yet mature environment which will enable its students fully to realise their academic potential. Students learn not only how to gain the grades they need to get on their chosen course, but in the process they also acquire the skills, the good study habits and the self-reliance they will need to take full advantage of that place once their degree course begins.
British Accreditation Council Report
Oxford Tutorial College was first accredited by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education in 1986. It was most recently re-inspected in February 2005.
BAC's inspectors reported on a good or excellent level of provision in all of the areas assessed during the visit. They considered that the College's system of tutorial and small group teaching was very effectively used to provide classes which were fully focussed on the needs and interests of each student. Students themselves were very positive about their experience, considering that the system had enabled them to develop as confident learners learners who could look forward to the challenges of higher education. The College was well managed, with a large and well qualified teaching staff.
Administrative systems and student welfare support were excellent.
Oxford Tutorial College was awarded continuing accreditation in April 2005.

Accommodation
We arrange accommodation in Oxford for students as requested. The choice is important as a student should feel at ease with, and supported by, his or her domestic surroundings.
A student living with a family has a single bedroom, normally with breakfast and evening meal provided. Some of these homes offer self-catering facilities if students wish to cook their own meals. Close contact is maintained with host families, most of whom have been housing our students for a number of years. All accommodation new to the college is carefully inspected before being recommended to students. The college has a student hostel in North Oxford, which houses eleven students and is supervised by a resident warden. Rooms in this hostel are normally taken for a full academic year. Meals are not provided; there are two kitchens in the hostel for student use. Places are filled quickly and further details should be discussed with the Student Officer. The minimum age for hostel occupants is 18 years.
