Castle College of Nottingham

Overview

Castle College Nottingham was formed by the merger of Broxtowe College and The People's College in 2006.


Vision-"We aspire to be the region's leading provider of learning and training, recognized by learners and employers for the outstanding quality of our comprehensive and demand driven vocational provision."

Board of Governance-The board of governors are drawn from the public and private sector, and each member brings with them significant expertise in one or more areas. Governors are drawn from the staff, student association, local employers and public authorities which provides the college with a rich mix of experience and views to guide the strategic management.


Associations-Castle College Nottingham is an associate college of De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University, The University of Bedford shire, The University of Northampton and The University of Derby, providing opportunities to take Higher Education courses locally.

Partners :-
Confetti- The Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies is a unique custom-designed facility specifically for students who wish to pursue careers in music and creative technologies. In partnership with the College, courses are available in music technology, video production, animation and DJ skills. There have been no shortage of success stories from the Institute during this academic year, keeping Castle College students firmly in the limelight.


Well established connections with the Music & Media industry enable Confetti to provide students with a variety of fascinating guest speakers, especially for their Annual Industry Week. This provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with the creative industries and gain ideas for their career development. Students have also enjoyed trips to the BBC studios in Nottingham, Earls Court in London and Alton Towers.

 

BTCV- Castle College has a long standing and successful partnership with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), working together to provide practical conservation based training across the community, for those wishing to improve their skills and pursue a career in the land based sector.


The College has recently celebrated the exceptional achievement of a 100% success rate for 18 adult learners undertaking Environmental NVQ courses through this partnership. These results overtook national success rates by a significant margin and all learners have since entered higher level education with Castle College, local Agricultural Colleges or secured related employment in the land-based sector.


Toyota- The College's major partnership with Toyota GB has enabled the construction of the Highfields Automotive & Engineering Center, located at Nottingham's Science Park. This landmark building will become a center of excellence in automotive training, providing a national center for Toyota's Apprenticeship Academy as well as offering a range of courses for up to 600 Castle College students. The £14 million project is part funded by the Learning and Skills Council Nottingham shire and East Midlands Development Agency East, with financial support from Nottingham City Council.

 

The Center of Excellence will help to fill a sector skills gap identified by Toyota, Castle College and the project partners, all of whom recognized the importance of the scheme in helping to further develop the region's manufacturing and engineering sector base. The training offered at the centre will cater for school and further education students from the Greater Nottingham area wanting to prepare for a career in the automotive industry. Pre-16 students will study for motor vehicle maintenance and repair qualifications on a day release basis from school, and school leavers will be able to continue their education in automotive engineering.


NETA- Nottingham Engineering Training Association (NETA) is based in New Basford and is Nottingham's longest established provider of engineering training and advice to member companies throughout the Midlands. The company also delivers government funded adult learning programmes on behalf of the Learning and Skills Council.


Leap Ahead- Leap Ahead is a consortium of the University of Derby who are the hosts, the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, the Open University and the eight FE colleges in Derbyshire and Nottingham shire. A national HEFCE funded initiative, the Lifelong Learning Network has a mission to raise levels of employer engagement with vocational Higher Education programmes, and to increase the number of students entering vocational Higher Education programmes.

Location and Facilities

Nottingham is one of the U K's most attractive and fast-developing cities and with two universities is an extremely popular destination for students from all over the world. Nottingham is in the center of the UK with excellent road and rail links which makes it easy to travel to many of the major cities throughout the country.

 

Nottingham's location allows easy access to the beautiful English countryside including: the famous Sherwood Forest which was home to Robin Hood and the Peak District National Park.


Castle College has a number of centers and campuses across Nottingham shire. The details of these are as follows:-
NOTTINHAM CITY SITES
The People's Campus-Castle College's headquarters is located conveniently in Nottingham's City Center on Maid Marian Way. Courses offered at the campus are Digital Technologies, Business & Travel, Management & Professional and Health & Medical Sciences.


Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies-Confetti is a unique custom-designed facility in Nottingham City Center specifically for students who wish to pursue careers in music technology and creative technologies.


Courses are available in music technology, video production, animation and DJ skills, and there is an impressive array of commercial recording studios, pre-and post production editing suites and DJ suites, with equally impressive recording equipment and instruments. Cafe and library facilities are also available.


Courses are for anyone from school leavers to mature students, from absolute beginners to professionals and range from part-time short courses to full-time courses and from foundation to degree level.


People First Center-The People First Center on Alfreton Road in Nottingham is a dedicated center for those who would like to take a College course but do not wish to study in a large College environment. Those aged 16-19 have the opportunity to take E2E and E4E courses.

 

London Road Construction and Technology Center-The College's brand new Construction & Technology Centre is on London Road in Nottingham's City Centre, just a five minute walk from the train station, providing easy access to students from further afield.

The large Centre has all the facilities you need if you wish to pursue a career in the Construction, Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle, Engineering & Manufacturing industries. The impressive facilities include Motor Vehicle workshops, Plastering, Welding, Painting & Decorating, Site Joinery and Bricklaying workshops, as well as a cafe and library.


The Highfields Automotive & Engineering Centre-The Highfields Automotive & Engineering Centre is located on University Boulevard. The Centre provides state of the art training for Automotive Technology and Engineering & Manufacture courses. Created in conjunction with Toyota, the Centre has ten fully fitted workshops, a car showroom and a state of the art learning resource centre.


NETA House-NETA House is located on Duke Street in New Basford. Since 1967 NETA (Nottingham Engineering Training Association) have been providing quality training and advice to companies throughout the Midlands and surrounding areas.


NETA offer a wide range of training courses specific to industrial areas and can also cater courses for individual businesses with a need to educate and train its staff.


BEESTON SITES
Beeston Campus- The College's Beeston Campus is located on Chilwell's High Road, just a few minutes walk from Beeston town centre.Existing specialist facilities at the campus include state-of-the-art equipment for Music & Media courses and a replica air cabin for students studying Business & Travel. Other courses offered at the campus are A Levels, Access, Engineering, Pre-Foundation, Manufacturing & Electronics, Languages and Teacher Training.


The Ellis Grove Construction Academy-The Ellis Grove Construction Academy is just a 5 minute walk from the main Beeston Campus. Construction tutors with experience in the trade will provide you with all the training you need, for courses in Site Carpentry, Bricklaying and Plastering in purpose built facilities.

 

Middle Street Center-The Middle Street Centre is located just a few minutes walk from Beeston Town Centre.

 

STAPLEFORD SITES

The Arthur Mee Centre- in Stapleford provides specialist facilities for students with learning disabilities and for those taking Art & Design, Childcare and Pre-Foundation Programmes.

 

The Whiteley Mill -in the centre of Stapleford provides state of the art facilities for students wishing to take Hair, Beauty and Holistic Therapies courses, all of which are open to the public. These facilities were officially opened in style in the summer of 2006, with a special fashion show attended by Twiggy from Trent FM. Public Services, Health & Social Care and Plumbing courses are also based at this centre.

 

Accomodation

The International Office will assist all new students in finding suitable accommodation. For students aged 18 and over they can choose to live in Mooregate house which has 45 private, single, en-suite rooms divided into flats of five. For students under the age of 18 it is compulsory to live in a College approved Homestay. A number of shared student houses are available in the Beeston area for those who are aged over 18 and prefer to live independently. The International Office can provide a list of reputable letting agents and landlords to help you find accommodation to suit your needs.

      Castle College Nottingham also offers a range of higher education courses. These are called Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) and Foundation Degrees. These are career-based qualifications that are equivalent to the first two years of a university degree course. After completing the HND or Foundation Degree course you can either go on to do 1-2 years' further study at a university to convert the qualification into a degree or pursue your chosen career.

Available to Indian students who:
are aged 17 or above and have achieved a minimum 70% or above in the Higher Secondary School Certificate, with   minimum 65% in Mathematics have obtained an IELTS 5.0 or IELTS 5.5 (depending on subject chosen), with minimum 5.0 in Reading & Writing and 4.5 in Listening or equivalent qualification Castle College High Achievers can also apply for a variety of scholarships awarded by our partner universities. For example, the University of Nottingham offers 2 scholarships of £2000 to Castle College students onto their undergraduate programmes.
