Birkbeck, University of London is a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic excellence, and London's only specialist provider of evening higher education. Birkbeck's academic reputation attracts many full-time postgraduate and research students from all around the world.

Part of the world famous University of London, Birkbeck is in the top 25% of UK institutions for research quality. In 2006, the College was also awarded a prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for excellence in higher education research and is regularly voted number one in the UK's National Student Survey for student satisfaction and the quality of our teaching. Last year students awarded the College a 90% satisfaction score, making Birkbeck the top rated multi-faculty institution in London, and joint fourth in the UK.

The College has a diverse student community where over 100 nationalities are represented. These include a steadily increasing number from India. Birkbeck is located in the heart of central London, within walking distance of world famous museums and galleries, well-known shopping areas, and the entertainment areas of London's West End, including Chinatown and Theatreland.

The College is surrounded by other University of London colleges and a short walk from the British Library. Birkbeck offers its students an excellent environment in which to undertake their studies and a lively student atmosphere. Full-time students have excellent access to a wide range of academic libraries and computer facilities across the University of London campus.

General Intake

Birkbeck has one intake in October for Master's Degrees. It may be possible for Research students to start in January or April but the majority of our students start in October.
