Victoria is located in New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, in close proximity to the country’s archives and national collection libraries and the wealth of research institutions concentrated there. Victoria is a comprehensive university with a strong research focus. The University was established in 1899, making it among the oldest universities in New Zealand.
Victoria prides itself as a university with a significant international focus and a strong domestic base. Victoria has extensive collaborative and student exchange links with renowned universities throughout the Pacific, Asia, North and South America and Europe. The University enrols over 21,000 students each year including close to 3,000 international students from around 80 countries.

ACCREDITATION
Architecture -Victoria’s new Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) in Architecture, combined with the Master of Architecture (Professional) (March[Prof]) was awarded accreditation by the New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA). NZIA is an internationally recognized global standard for all Architecture Programmes and is the country’s only professional association for its 3,000-plus members.
Landscape Architecture -The new Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) in Landscape Architecture, combined with the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) was accredited by the New Zealand Insititute of Landscape Architects (NZILA) in 2009.

Building Science
Our Bachelor of Building Science (BBSc) and Master of Building Science (MBSc) have been professionally recognised by the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB). The NZIOB is New Zealand’s professional institute for persons engaged in building practice and building science.
Interior Architecture
Victoria’s Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) in Interior Architecture and Master of Interior Architecture (MIA) degrees are internationally recognised through their affiliation to the International Federation of Interior Design/Architecture (IFI).

Campus
Wellington is the political, cultural and creative capital of New Zealand with a regional population of close to 500,000. It is situated at the southern tip of New Zealand’s North Island, between a beautiful harbor and rolling green hills. Wellington is a compact, dynamic, and fun city with all the trappings of a thriving metropolis.
Victoria University has four campuses, three of which are within a 30-minute walk of each other in the city centre. The main Kelburn campus enjoys an idyllic setting with its elevated position commanding stunning views over the harbour. The Law School occupies the historic government buildings opposite Parliament and the High Court and is adjacent to the Faculty of Commerce and Administration, on the Pipitea campus.
The Schools of Architecture and Design occupy a large, purpose-built awards-winning building, Te Aro campus, in the midst of the cafes, galleries and old bookstores in the central city’s heart. The Faculty of Education is located in Karori, a 10-minute drive from the heart of the city.

Home stay is when a student lives with a New Zealand family in their home. If you are an international student under the age of 18, you are required to stay in homestay accommodation

Scholarships
Summer Research Scholarships
The Summer Research Scholarships offer a unique opportunity for students to obtain experience in research. A Summer Research Scholarship is an exceptional research opportunity, providing insight into what studying for a research degree is all about. If you are currently enrolled full time at VUW and will have completed at least two years of your undergraduate degree by the summer trimester, you can get a head start now!
The scholarships offer students the experience of working with established researchers in most schools. Students will be expected to conduct a research project of approximately 10 weeks duration (400 hours) under the supervision of an academic staff member.
Victoria PhD Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and are open to New Zealand and international students in any discipline. The scholarship pays $21,000.00 per annum stipend, plus NZ domestic tuition fees (internationals students have to pay the balance of international fees themselves). Generally funding is up to three years.
Vice Chancellors Strategic Research Scholarships (PhD only)
These scholarships are offered in areas of research that is of priority/interest to the university. This scholarship pays $21,000.00 in living costs plus NZ domestic tuition fees (internationals students have to pay the rest of the international fees themselves).
NB: Scholarship applications are now closed for 2007. Application dates and deadlines for 2008 will be confirmed later in the year.
Victoria Masters Scholarship
This scholarship is available for research focused Master’s degrees. Only those students enrolled solely for a 120 point thesis are eligible to apply. In some cases this will be Part 2 of a two year Master’s degree.
The Scholarship pays $15,000.00 stipend plus NZ domestic fees (internationals students have to pay the balance of international fees themselves).
VUW Graduate Awards
This is available to Honours students and students working on their Masters by coursework. The Graduate Awards pay NZ domestic tuition fees (international students pay the balance of international fees themselves).
