Overview

Many people have reaped the rewards of a quality education at EIT over the last 30 years. The Institute offers an extensive range of programmes.

There are now more than 90 programmes offered at postgraduate, degree, diploma and certificate level, across an impressive range of subject areas in five faculties:

Science and Technology

EIT programmes combine practical skills with a sound theory base. Many can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis so there is an increasing opportunity to earn while you learn. Open Entry courses enable people who don’t have academic qualifications or don't feel ready for a higher level of study, an introductory pathway to achieving a fulfilling career.

The Eastern Institute of Technology, as it is named today, was officially opened as the Hawke´s Bay Community College by the Minister of Education, Phil Amos. Mr. Amos laid the foundation stone, on 4 October 1975.

In 1987 the Hawke´s Bay Community College was renamed the”Hawke´s Bay Polytechnic”. The next name change - to the ”Eastern Institute of Technology” occurred in 1996, the Institutes's 21st year.

Throughout the development of the Institute, programme offerings have been continually developed to meet the needs of the region and now include in excess of 90 programmes ranging from foundation to degree and post-graduate level.

The Eastern Institute of Technology is now regarded by the Ministry of Education as one of the exemplar tertiary education providers in New Zealand.

EIT is located in Hawke´s Bay NZ,
The cities of Napier and Hastings together comprise the fifth largest urban area in New Zealand.

They are sophisticated modern cities, yet rich in tradition with Art Deco and Spanish Mission architecture creating a special character.

Surrounding the cities is a rich, productive region known for award-winning wine and tourism activity.

The climate is compared by many to the south of France and Italy. It’s not just the weather! Where else in the world can you be on the coast, but surrounded by mountains?

We offer an ongoing Careers Counseling Service, a Learning Skills Centre for individual and group assistance, a Disability Liaison Service provides a comprehensive range of services to ensure students have equal study opportunities.
