Overview
The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public funded university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is a liberal arts university with a primary emphasis on undergraduate study in the liberal arts and sciences. It was founded in 1969 by the merger of St. Dunstan's University founded in 1855 and Prince of Wales College, founded in 1860. It is one of the top ten undergraduate universities in Canada!
The primary mission of this university is to encourage and assist people to acquire the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for critical and creative thinking.
It offers a diverse range of courses ranging from arts, to business to education to science to nursing and veterinary sciences.
The University of Prince Edward Island has a long tradition of providing a solid education in the liberal arts. It is committed to rigorous study and inquiry, belief in the value of knowledge, lifelong capacity-building, and the development of the whole person.
The Faculty of Education offers innovative B.Ed.(pre-service), Graduate (MEd and PhD), and professional development programs that demonstrate excellence in teaching.
The faculty of Science apart from regular programs also offers Internship and Co-operative Education Programs.
The faculty of Veterinary medicine is home to The Atlantic Veterinary College, a leading research institute known around the world for its world class researchers and highly collaborative spirit.
The school of Business also offers degree programs, specializations and enhancement opportunities by way of Study abroad programs and Co-operative education.
The Centre for Life-Long Learning develops, delivers, and is involved in a wide range of adult education activities, including professional development certificate programs and short courses.
Small class sizes and easy access to faculty ensures that students develop effective learning relationships.
Location & Facilities
UPEI's campus, located at the corner of Belvedere and University Avenues in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island's capital city, is built on 134 acres (54 hectares) of land.
UPEI accommodates 434 students in three residences:
Bill and Denise Andrew Hall
Blanchard Hall
Bernardine Hall. Although the hall is co-ed, one floor is female-only.
Recreation sports are an integral part of campus life, providing relief from the stress of daily academic commitments, improving personal fitness and well being, and providing an opportunity to make social contacts. This is free for full time students.
The Fitness Centre has a variety of equipments like MP3 Keiser Bicycles, Life Fitness Treadmills, Bicycles, Ellipticals Cross-Trainers and Stair climbers, rowers and Cybex Cross Trainers

Scholarships
It offers scholarships of over4.2Million Dollars. Students are advised to apply early as they could be eligible for an automatic entrance scholarship or award. To be considered for this the appllication along with the first-term transcripts, must reach on or before March 1.
UPEI awards over 300 entrance scholarships a year. For example UPEI awards the Inspiring Exellence Award valued at $1000 for all first year students entering UPEI with a cumulative average of 85%+ based on the five courses used in admission.
Bursaries are offered to students based on various criteria including residency, community service, and financial need.
Bursaries are usually offered mid-way through each academic semester and require an application.
