Charles Darwin University, located in the capital city of Darwin, is a comprehensive teaching and research intensive university and the only university in the Northern Territory of Australia. This is a unique and authentic part of Australia; a vast region of one of the oldest landscapes on the planet and among the most culturally and biologically diverse. Location & Facilities

Casuarina campus
Charles Darwin University's campuses and education centres are located across the Northern Territory. The main campus for International Students is the Casuarina Campus. It is located in the northern suburbs of Darwin, and is about 12 km from the city centre.
It is set in 56 hectares of parkland, near an unspoilt beach and on a major bus route.

Palmerston campus
Charles Darwin University's Palmerston campus also offers limited courses for international students, mainly the hospitality programs. It is a friendly, warm and welcoming place for students, staff and visitors. The campus is people-oriented and seeks to engage further with the dynamic and growing community of Palmerston and surrounding regional area to help contribute to its growth and development for future generations.

Palmerston campus is set in tropical bush land within walking distance of Palmerston city centre. Its man-made lake is a lure for bird life and contributes to the relaxed atmosphere of the university grounds.

Palmerston campus has modern facilities that enhance the learning environment for students and provide a pleasant environment for visitors who use the facilities available. A state-of-the-art library, with an after-hours study area for students to use, accessible from 7am to12am daily, is situated on campus.

The campus is home to a number of VET business units, and its highly acclaimed teaching team consists of executive chefs, award-winning bakers, environmental scientists, as well as experts in conservation and land management, retail, beauty therapy, hairdressing and tourism and hospitality.

The campus currently houses the VET areas of Tourism; Hospitality & Recreation;Conservation and Land Management; Sales and Personal Services; Commercial, Cookery and Bakery; and courses from Business; Information Technology; and Library Studies.

Palmerston hosts several training facilities that are open to the public including the Karawa training restaurant for tourism and hospitality students, where you can enjoy a three-course meal; the Hairdressing Salon; and the Beauty Salon. There is a virtual enterprise Top End Travel, where students learn toursim and business operations.

Scholarships

There are a variety of scholarship options for international students. The information below relates to scholarships provided by the Australian Government and other Australian agencies. Other scholarship options may be available from your home government, international organisations or other funding bodies. The Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) offer a number of different scholarships.

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)
CDU provides education programs for ADS students. ADS scholarships are for undergraduate and postgraduate study to enable citizens of eligible countries within the Asia Pacific region to gain higher level knowledge and skills in Australia to promote development in their home country. ADS scholarships cover tuition costs and living expenses. ADS scholars studying at CDU enjoy the support services offered to all international students plus support from the University's designated AusAID officer, a specialised Introductory Academic Program (IAP) and additional tuition support as recommended by academic staff.

Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
CDU participates in the Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) to provide high-quality masters and doctorate degree programs to current and future leaders from the Asia Pacific region. ALA scholarships cover tuition costs and a living allowance and are allocated on a competitive basis. Applications for the scholarships close on 31 July for study in the following year. Students must have an unconditional offer of a place at CDU before applying for the scholarship.

Endeavour Program
CDU participates in the Australian Government's Endeavour Program. These scholarships enable high-achieving students, researchers and professionals to undertake short or long-term study, research and professional development in Australia in a broad range of disciplines. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a merit selection process.

Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (EIPRS)
The EIPRS program enables outstanding international students to undertake a research masters or a PhD in areas of research strength at Australian universities and gain experience with leading Australian researchers. Funded by DEST, the EIPRS provides tuition fees and OSHC for scholarship holders and their dependants. Scholarships are open to all international students and are available for a period of two years for a research masters and three years for a PhD, with a possible extension where academic circumstances merit.

Applications for EIPRS at CDU close on 30 September each year. Applicants must complete the CDU International Application for Research Studies form and submit it together with all the required documentation and a research proposal. The documents must arrive in the CDU International Office no later than 30 September for admission in the following year. There is no separate scholarship application form. The EIPRS awards are extremely competitive. In 2009 just one EIPRS was awarded from 15 applicants.

Intake

There are 2 intakes every year for international students: first semester intake in March and second semester intake in July. VET students start in February and July every year. March is our major intake.
