Australian International Hotel School

AIHS was founded in 1995 in close affiliation with the prestigious Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. Since then, the school has developed a worldwide reputation for its academic excellence and unique learning environment.

The Australian International Hotel School (AIHS) is Australia’s leading university-level provider of hospitality management education. At AIHS you’ll get the education you need to take your career to a new level.

Our multinational campus is the ideal environment for students to learn about different cultures and attitudes in their preparation to join a global industry. At AIHS, students receive a world-class hotel education from caring and highly experienced hospitality industry professionals, while enjoying the company of fellow students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

AIHS is a unique educational environment: a hotel school with its own live training hotel, in an intimate campus setting, where each student is nurtured and mentored as an individual. The results show in the caliber and success of our graduates.

AIHS holds full national and state accreditation to the highest levels within Australia, including:

  • Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (National level)

  • Australian Capital Territory Education and Training (State level)

  • Institute of Hospitality

  • AIHS is a founding member of The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), which is an independent, not-for-profit organization. Membership includes world-leading universities, private hotels and vocational colleges.

    Location & Facilities

AIHS and the Hotel Kurrajong are located on National Circuit in the leafy streets of Barton, adjacent to the parliamentary triangle and close to Canberra’s business, cultural and tourism heart.

Due to the demands of late night and early morning training shifts, and so that students can bond with each other and become familiar with Canberra in a supported way, students live on-campus. Students reside in well-appointed single hotel-style rooms with ensuite or shared bathrooms. All rooms have heating, a private telephone and 24/7 internet access. Student rooms are serviced once a week and all linen is provided.

Other on-campus facilities include a student gymnasium and a recreation room with plasma TV, cable television, and a DVD player, as well as a pool table and tabletop football. There is also an outdoor courtyard with a basketball hoop and a barbecue area with picnic tables for students to socialize outdoors.

Students have access to a full range of academic, pastoral and other support services, including counseling on both academic and personal matters, and a duty manager who is available 24/7 for any emergencies.

    Industry Placement
Hands on experience while you study, paid internships.

Our students begin working in the industry under the supervision of highly skilled professionals before they even graduate. Both of our undergraduate programs include two compulsory periods of paid industry practicum (also known as placements or externships) with employers in Australia or abroad.

Our students have completed their Industry Placement in a variety of exciting locations including:
    • Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Australia
    • Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, Australia
    • Tokyo Hilton, Japan
    • Sheraton Park Tower London, England
    • Hotel Intercontinental Geneva, Switzerland
    • Newport Bay Club Disneyland, Paris, France
    • Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
    • Whistler Mountain Ski Corps, BC Canada

    Undergraduate Programs
Business focused training for real world preparation
With their strong focus on business, our undergraduate degrees offer students the competitive edge for accelerated careers in hospitality or event management, as well as the opportunity to gain double degrees through our partner schools. The result is more choices and greater flexibility for study pathways.

    Swiss Hotel Association Dipolma
AIHS follows the traditional Swiss Hospitality Education model, originally conceived by the Swiss Hotel Association from the home of hospitality, which balances theoretical classes with hands on learning in service, food and beverage, rooms division and professional internships. If students are completing this degree option then they have the opportunity to graduate with the SHA Diploma in Hotel Operations.

    Postgraduate Programs

    Master of Hotel Management
This high-level graduate program is ideally suited to graduates with a degree in another discipline that have decided to make a career change to the global hospitality and tourism industry. It is also suited to industry professionals who wish to take their qualifications to the next level.
